The Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences at MIT combines the momentum of a top-ranked research university with the advantages of an accessible, collegial department.
Unleash your natural curiosity.
The interdisciplinary nature of our work is a hallmark of the department. Many of our scientists work in more than one area which gives students in EAPS the unique ability to tackle complex questions from local environments to planetary scales. Geologists team with atmospheric scientists to understand how a model of changing precipitation trends can help predict landslides. DNA sequencing of extant organisms combined with isotopic dating of ancient rocks reveals the origins of animal life in sea sponges, and the influence of tiny microbes on mass extinction. Ours is a collaborative effort to understand nature in all of its forms, and we invite you to join us. Where will your curiosity take you?
PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE. NOW.
From far-ranging field work to laboratory modeling and experimentation—all closely guided by renowned MIT faculty members—EAPS students have opportunities unmatched by any other program.
